Projects

Over the last 10 years the Facey Group farming community has witnessed a change in most mixed enterprise farming operations to focus more heavily on broad acre cropping. The group’s trials and demonstrations have grown with this new outlook while promoting continued education and investigation into livestock development.

Below is information on all of our current projects. To view our past projects, please select this from the dropdown under projects in the main menu.

STUBBLE MANAGEMENT:

Project focus:

  • To outline changes in in-crop temperature from burning or retaining wheat or barley stubble.

STUBBLE ADDITION

Project focus

To determine if there is a response curve interaction between temperature and the addition of 0t, 1t, 2t, 4t, and 8t of stubble
To determine whether any of the treatments change the severity and duration of frost.

  • Location: Cuballing and Tincurrin
  • Project start Date: February 2014
  • Project end Date: June 2016
  • On-ground works: On-ground works are to be completed in 2015 on grower scale and small plot trials.

NON-WETTING-YEALERING:

• Project Focus:
Compare changes in soil characteristics and crop growth and performance in a mouldboard ploughed area versus untreated (control) area.
• Location: Yealering
• Project start Date: February 2014
• Project end Date: June 2016

NON-WETTING- WICKEPIN

• Project focus:
To determine if the addition of lime and its method of incorporation (None/control, MBP or deep rip) has an effect on soil pH resulting in a differentiation in crop yield. Compare the non-wetting properties of soil before and after mouldboard ploughing, deep ripping or no cultivation.
• Location: Wickepin
• Project start Date: February 2014
• Project end Date: June 2016
• On-ground works: On-ground works are to be completed in 2014 and 2015 on grower scale trials.

GRAIN AND GRAZE 3

• Project focus:
To assess the impact of (and interaction between) grazing and frost damage on the grain yield and quality of a range of winter and spring cereal varieties sown at two times of sowing.
• Location: Cuballing
• Project start date: February 2014
• Project end date: June 2017
• On-ground works: On-ground works are to be completed in 2014, 2015 and 2016 on small plot trials.

INCORPORATING LIME TO DEPTH ON DUPLEX WHEATBELT SOILS

• Project focus:
To reduce the impact of acidic soils on plant growth and test the most practical and economical methods of incorporation of lime on duplex soils in the Central Southern Wheatbelt and compare against common top-dressing practice.
• Location: Wickepin
• Project start date: February 2015
• Project end date: June 2016
• On Ground works: on ground works are to be completed in 2015 on grower scale trials.
